Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku officially unveiled by UD Las Palmas

Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku has joined Segunda Division club UD Las Palmas on a two-year contract after completing his medical in Spain.

Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku has been officially presented as a UD Las Palmas player after completing his move to the Spanish Segunda Division club. The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Canary Islands side.

Opoku arrived in Las Palmas on Wednesday, August 18, to finish the formalities of the transfer. He completed his medical at HPS Hospitales before appearing at his presentation to the press.

The centre-back began his career with Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League and has since played in several European and African leagues. His previous clubs include Club Africain of Tunisia, Italian Serie A team Udinese and French side Amiens SC, followed by a spell in Turkey.

He joins Las Palmas after making 30 appearances for Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig during the previous campaign. Opoku accumulated 2,435 minutes and helped the club stay clear of relegation. His final appearance came against champions Galatasaray, when Kasimpasa won 1-0 and kept a clean sheet.

Las Palmas are adding the experienced defender as they work towards a return to La Liga following relegation in the 2024/25 season. The club finished among the top five in La Liga Hypermotion in 2025/26, but their promotion bid ended in the semi-finals with defeat by Malaga.

Opoku is expected to strengthen a defence affected by several summer departures. He joins a rebuilding squad overseen by new head coach Ruben de la Barrera, with the club combining experienced recruits and academy players.
