MTN Elite U19 Championship committee seeks GFA prize-money approval
The 2026 MTN Elite U19 Championship committee is awaiting GFA approval before announcing prize money and other participant entitlements.
The committee organising the 2026 MTN Elite U19 Championship is seeking Ghana Football Association approval for the prize money and other financial entitlements attached to the competition. The amounts will be announced after the governing body approves the tournament budget.
The second edition is scheduled for August 24 to September 4 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Ten Regional Football Association Under-19 select sides will take part in the competition.
The participating teams are made up of players from Second Division clubs, making the championship part of the development pathway for young footballers in Ghana. The GFA considers the Elite U19 Championship an important element of its long-term player development strategy.
Enoch Agyare Addo, the committee’s vice-chairman, said the organisers had submitted a proposed budget to the GFA for consideration. He explained that the committee does not determine the final allocations, with the GFA General Secretary responsible for approving what each participating club receives.
Transport support will also be assessed according to the distance each team must travel to Prampram. The committee has not yet disclosed the winner’s prize or the amounts intended for the other participants because those details remain subject to approval.
The tournament will also include individual player awards, while medals will be presented to the clubs that win the trophies. Agyare Addo said the 2026 edition is expected to improve on the inaugural championship, although the financial package will only be made public once the GFA completes its review.
