Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu is set to leave AJ Auxerre for newly promoted Turkish Super Lig club Erzurumspor on a permanent transfer. The 28-year-old Ghana international is expected to join in a deal worth €1 million, excluding possible bonuses.
The move will end Owusu’s three-and-a-half-year spell with Auxerre, despite the defensive midfielder having a contract with the French club until June 2027. He is travelling to Türkiye to complete the transfer, with a medical and agreement on personal terms still required before the move is finalised.
Owusu joined Auxerre from Belgian club KAA Gent in January 2023. Auxerre paid about €500,000 for the Ghanaian, who had previously played for Gent, Lyon and FC Sochaux. His market value at Auxerre is listed at €4 million.
The midfielder became an important player in the Auxerre squad and was appointed captain. He held the armband until the end of last season, after which uncertainty grew around his future at the club.
His impending departure comes as Auxerre reshape their squad before the new campaign. Owusu was left among the substitutes for the club’s latest friendly, a 1-0 win against Werder Bremen, another indication that he was close to leaving.
Erzurumspor have secured promotion to the Turkish Super Lig and regard Owusu as an experienced midfield addition for their return to the top division. The move will take him away from French football after several seasons and provide a new club challenge while he remains part of the Ghana national-team setup.
