GTTA opens registration for 2026 Level One and Two umpire courses
Ghana’s table tennis body will hold Level One and Level Two umpire training in Accra from August 20 to 25, 2026.
The Ghana Table Tennis Association has opened registration for its 2026 Level One and Level Two umpire courses, which will be held from August 20 to 25 at the GTTA Secretariat in Caprice, Accra. The venue is near Boomerang Night Club.
The Level One Basic Umpire course is scheduled for August 20 to 22, followed by the Level Two National Umpire course from August 23 to 25. Each day will have two sessions, running from 9am to noon and from 2pm to 5pm.
Participants may join through a blended format, although online candidates must attend the venue on the final day of their respective course for the practical examination. Both courses will assess candidates through theory and practical tests.
The programme will cover Chapters 2 and 3 of the ITTF Statutes, the ITTF Handbook for Match Officials and the List of Authorised Racket Coverings. David Senyo Ahiaba, an experienced Ghanaian table tennis official, will lead the training.
Applicants must complete at least 16 hours of instruction, be born on or before January 1, 2006, and be able to use English competently. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet browsers is also required. Level Two applicants must additionally hold a Level One certificate and have umpiring experience at school, district, municipal, regional or national level.
The fee is GH₵600 for Level One, GH₵800 for Level Two and GH₵1,000 for both courses. The blended option adds GH₵100 to each category, taking the totals to GH₵700, GH₵900 and GH₵1,100 respectively.
GTTA president Mawuko Afadzinu said developing capable officials is central to improving the sport’s foundation in Ghana. Technical director Charles Tachie-Menson said the training would address the laws of table tennis, match procedures and the responsibilities of officials, while expanding the pool of umpires available for tournaments across the country.
