Harare City under pressure after 1-0 MCM Estates league win in Zimbabwe
Harare City remain second in Zimbabwe’s Northern Region Soccer League after beating Black Mambas 1-0, but promotion rivals are close behind.
Harare City are feeling the pressure in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League despite a 1-0 victory over Black Mambas. The result left the Sunshine Boys second on 42 points from 24 matches, six points behind leaders Black Rhinos.
Emmanuel Mandiranga scored the only goal for Harare City, maintaining their challenge at the top of the table. The mid-season signing was also singled out by coach Try Ncube for his commitment, leadership and contribution across the match.
City cannot afford to concentrate solely on catching Black Rhinos. Ngezi Stars Under-19 are third with 40 points, G&T Mine have 39 and Chingwere sit fifth on 38. That leaves only four points between Harare City and fifth place, increasing the importance of every remaining fixture.
Black Rhinos strengthened their position with 48 points, although their lead could have been larger after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Highrange. Harare City’s win over Black Mambas ensured they took advantage of that dropped opportunity and stayed within reach of the leaders.
Ncube acknowledged that the promotion contest is putting pressure on his team, while also stressing that the wider Northern Region race remains unpredictable. The competition for the places near the top means City must protect their position as well as try to reduce the gap to Rhinos.
Harare City travel to Trojan Mine Stadium on Saturday to face relegation-threatened Batanai. On the same day, Black Rhinos host FC Oden at Commando Barracks, giving both leading sides another chance to shape the promotion race.
