Highlanders, Chicken Inn renew rivalry in Zimbabwe PSL 2026
Highlanders face Chicken Inn again on 19 August, three days after winning their Chibuku Super Cup tie on penalties in Bulawayo.
Highlanders and Chicken Inn meet again on Wednesday, 19 August, in a rescheduled Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League fixture at Barbourfields Stadium. The rematch comes three days after Highlanders won their Chibuku Super Cup first-round tie 3-1 on penalties following a goalless 90 minutes.
The latest encounter gives Chicken Inn an immediate chance to respond after their cup elimination. The Gamecocks stayed level with Highlanders throughout regulation time on Sunday but could not convert the shootout, while Highlanders advanced to the competition’s last eight.
The league meeting carries a different reward, with three points and local bragging rights at stake. Highlanders will want to maintain the momentum from their cup success, while Chicken Inn will be seeking a stronger attacking performance after failing to score in the weekend tie.
Chicken Inn enter the fixture in 10th place with 33 points from 25 league matches. Their record stands at nine wins, six draws and 10 defeats, with 19 goals scored and 22 conceded. They had won three straight league games against TelOne, Hunters and Manica Diamonds before losing 3-2 at Ngezi Platinum and 2-0 to Hardrock.
The short turnaround places fresh demands on both teams. Highlanders must recover from a tense cup contest and reproduce the intensity required for another meeting with the same opponents, while Chicken Inn have little time to dwell on the penalty defeat. Sunday’s stalemate underlined how closely matched the Bulawayo sides can be.
With the cup advantage already secured by Bosso, the league fixture offers Chicken Inn an opportunity to restore pride. Highlanders, meanwhile, can complete a second victory over their city rivals within three days if they collect the points at Barbourfields.
