KCCA and NEC set for FUFA Super 8 final showdown at Nakivubo

KCCA face NEC in the FUFA Super 8 final at Nakivubo, with both clubs seeking silverware and a chance to end lengthy waits for a trophy.

KCCA and NEC will meet in the FUFA Super 8 final at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Tuesday. KCCA finished second in the 2025 Uganda Premier League with 62 points from 30 matches, while NEC are seeking their first major trophy since reaching the top flight.

KCCA enter the final after beating Kitara 1-0 in the semi-finals, with Saidi Mayanja scoring early. That victory sent the club into a third Super 8 final, following appearances in the 2018 and 2019 finals.

The Kasasiro also defeated BUL 4-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, winning both legs 2-1. Mayanja has been central to their progress, while Sammy Ssebaduka, Yunus Sibira and new signing Ibrahim Kasule are among the other players expected to influence the contest.

KCCA’s league campaign has produced 19 wins, five draws and six defeats, with 46 goals scored and 22 conceded. Their last five matches show three wins and two draws: a 4-1 victory over Mbarara City, a goalless draw at URA, a 2-1 win at UPDF, a 3-0 success against Maroons and a 1-1 draw with Vipers.

NEC reached the final by overturning a deficit against defending champions SC Villa and winning the semi-final 3-1 after the break. They had earlier removed Entebbe UPPC 3-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Richard Basangwa, who scored twice against UPPC and played a key role in the comeback against Villa, is NEC’s main attacking threat. Joseph Sseremba, Daniel Shabene and James Jarieko have also been identified as important contributors for a side hoping to claim its first silverware since promotion to the top tier.

The final carries additional weight for KCCA, whose most recent trophy came seven years ago. NEC, meanwhile, are aiming to turn their rise in Uganda’s top division into their first piece of senior silverware. SC Villa and Kitara will contest the third-place play-off earlier at the same venue.
