Khabib Nurmagomedov hails Islam Makhachev after record UFC 330 win

Khabib Nurmagomedov has celebrated Islam Makhachev’s record-breaking victory at UFC 330, describing his fellow fighter as the embodiment of achievement. Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision in the main event.

The contest was Makhachev’s first defence of his welterweight title. The 34-year-old’s victory also moved him to 17 straight wins in the UFC, taking him beyond Anderson Silva’s previous record of 16 consecutive victories in the promotion.

Nurmagomedov praised Makhachev for reaching the highest levels of the sport and recognised the significance of surpassing Silva’s mark. He also placed his protégé among the finest athletes to have competed in the octagon.

The former UFC champion ended his tribute by wishing Makhachev continued health. His message followed another notable result involving a member of his wider team, with cousin Usman Nurmagomedov recently defending the PFL Lightweight Championship for the second time.

Usman defeated Archie Colgan at PFL New York, taking his professional record to 22-0. Nurmagomedov subsequently described him as the best lightweight outside the UFC and said discussions over his next league would take place the following month.
