Madugu says he is not afraid of being sacked after World Cup failure

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says he is not afraid of losing his position following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The coach's job security has been questioned after a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the CAF play-off in Morocco.

This loss means Nigeria will miss the tournament for the first time since the competition began in 1991. The Super Falcons had previously qualified for every single edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup. The team's qualification hopes were also damaged earlier when they failed to secure an automatic spot at WAFCON.

Madugu addressed the growing calls for the Nigeria Football Federation to change the technical staff. He stated that he is prepared to accept any decision made by the football authorities. He described representing the country as a privilege and noted that he has served his nation.

"I am not afraid of being sacked. To the glory of God, I have served my country. It was a privilege that was given to me," Madugu said.

Instead of focusing on his potential dismissal, the coach highlighted his recent performance record with the national side. He noted that in almost 28 games, he has recorded 19 wins, four losses, and four draws. He acknowledged that the recent defeat occurred during an unexpected and critical period.
