Medeama target CAF Champions League title after 2025/26 triumph

Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko says the Ghanaian champions aim to win the CAF Champions League after claiming the 2025/26 league title.

Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko has set winning the CAF Champions League as the club’s objective after their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League success. The Ghanaian champions will begin their continental campaign against TP Mazembe in the preliminary stage.

Medeama secured their place in Africa’s leading club competition by finishing as Ghanaian champions. Tanko said the club would enter the tournament to compete for the title rather than treat qualification as the end of their achievement.

Their first test will be against Mazembe, the DR Congo club with extensive experience in the CAF Champions League. The teams have been paired in the first round of the preliminary stage, giving Medeama a demanding route into the competition.

Medeama will host the opening leg at TNA Park on 5 September. The match is scheduled to start at 15:00 GMT, with Tanko’s side relying on home advantage before travelling to DR Congo for the return fixture.

The second leg will be played on 13 September and will also kick off at 15:00 GMT. Medeama’s immediate task is to make a positive start against Mazembe, while their wider aim is to carry their domestic title-winning form into Africa.

Tanko, a former Black Stars assistant coach, has therefore placed the Ghanaian club among the teams competing for the Champions League crown. Medeama’s domestic triumph has brought continental qualification, but the draw against Mazembe presents an early measure of their ability to challenge beyond Ghana.
