Mparutsa praises Ndlovu and Benjani for Zimbabwe football impact
Japhet Mparutsa says Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari raised Zimbabwe’s profile globally and should help shape the national team’s future.
Zimbabwe goalkeeping great Japhet “Shortcat” Mparutsa has praised Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari for their lasting contribution to the country’s football. He described the careers of the two former Warriors captains as remarkable and said their achievements reached beyond their own playing records.
Mparutsa said Ndlovu and Mwaruwari became examples of what Zimbabwean footballers could accomplish internationally. Their careers took them into major football arenas, where they showed that players from Zimbabwe could compete alongside leading names at the highest level.
The former goalkeeper believes their influence was not limited to goals, victories or personal success. By carrying Zimbabwe’s identity into international football, the pair gave supporters a source of pride and helped raise the country’s standing in the sport.
Mparutsa also linked their careers to the ambitions of younger Zimbabwean players. He said the success of Ndlovu and Mwaruwari encouraged a generation to believe that opportunities at the highest level were possible for them too.
He now wants Zimbabwean football to make greater use of the experience gathered by the two former captains. Mparutsa said Mwaruwari could contribute to the national team in a coaching role, while Ndlovu’s leadership and football knowledge could be valuable in a team-manager position.
For Mparutsa, Zimbabwe has already shown that it can produce players capable of competing at the top of the game. He believes the next task is to involve its established football figures in developing the next generation and maintaining the country’s place on the international football map.
