Msendami targets more goals after Pirates’ 3-0 Betway Premiership win
Daniel Msendami scored his first Orlando Pirates goal against Chippa United and is now seeking more opportunities during the title defence.
Daniel Msendami is aiming to build on his first Orlando Pirates goal after the defending champions beat Chippa United 3-0 in the Betway Premiership on Sunday. The Zimbabwe international came off the bench to score in the 88th minute at Kings Park, completing a victory that lifted Pirates to seven points from three matches.
Msendami took advantage of a defensive error to add the third goal after Ghampani Lungu and Lebone Seema had scored earlier in the second half. The strike was his first competitive goal for Pirates since his January move from Marumo Gallants.
The 25-year-old hopes the breakthrough will lead to more time on the pitch as Pirates seek to retain their league title. He has faced strong competition for places in an attack that includes several established internationals, making each substitute appearance an important chance to impress.
Msendami has made clear that he wants to contribute consistently rather than remain limited to occasional opportunities. His immediate targets are to keep improving, find the net more often and help Pirates maintain their winning form.
The winger arrived at the Soweto club viewing the move as an opportunity to compete at one of Africa’s biggest teams. He said the size of the squad had increased his motivation, while his focus has been on reaching the best physical and mental condition as the campaign develops.
Sunday’s contribution improved his prospects for further minutes, although competition within the squad remains intense. Pirates returned to the top of the standings on goal difference after the result and will next switch attention to an MTN8 meeting with Sekhukhune United next weekend.
