MTN8 semi-final draw pits holders Orlando Pirates against Sekhukhune
Orlando Pirates will face Sekhukhune United, while Mamelodi Sundowns meet Golden Arrows in the MTN8 semi-finals over two legs.
The MTN8 semi-final line-up has been confirmed, with defending champions Orlando Pirates drawn against Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns paired with Golden Arrows. Both ties will be decided over two legs, with places in the final at stake.
Sekhukhune will host Pirates in the opening match at Old Peter Mokoba Stadium on Saturday at 15:00. The return fixture is scheduled for the following week at Orlando Amstel Arena, giving the holders a home second leg in their attempt to retain the trophy.
Sundowns will begin their tie against Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, also at 15:00. The second meeting will take place a week later at King Zwelithini Stadium.
The four semi-finalists survived a quarter-final round that produced two extra-time wins and a seven-goal contest. Pirates edged Durban City 2-1 after extra time, while Sundowns defeated Polokwane City 3-2 in the additional period.
Sekhukhune secured their place by beating AmaZulu 4-3 in the highest-scoring quarter-final. Arrows completed the remaining line-up with a 1-0 away victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
Chiefs, AmaZulu, Durban City and Richards Bay were among the eight teams that began the competition but have now been eliminated. The semi-finals therefore bring together the reigning champions, last season’s other surviving contenders and two sides seeking a place in the MTN8 final.
