Otjombinde sport set for growth under Hange’s three-year plan
Otjombinde Sports Association president Wilson Hange has outlined a three-year plan covering youth leagues, tournaments, volleyball and facilities.
Otjombinde sport is set for a major development programme after the Otjombinde Sports Association (OSA) adopted a three-year roadmap under president Wilson Hange. The plan covers grassroots competitions, new tournaments, volleyball and efforts to improve sports facilities across the constituency in Namibia’s Omaheke region.
The roadmap was approved at the association’s February 2026 congress, where community representatives, clubs and other sports stakeholders elected the new leadership for a three-year mandate. Hange said the leadership’s priorities include strengthening local athletics, creating clearer development routes for young athletes and using sport to bring the constituency’s communities together.
A school and youth grassroots league is among the first projects on the planned calendar. OSA will also organise tournaments for primary and secondary schools in Otjombinde, with the competitions intended to form the base of its youth development work. A mid-term tournament will connect remote villages, growth points and schools, giving local players a competitive setting to maintain their match fitness before regional selections.
The association has also scheduled a three-day inter-regional tournament in Windhoek from 4 to 6 September 2026. The event will feature the top 16 teams from the Otjozondjupa and Omaheke regions. Hange said staging it in the capital will increase the players’ visibility, create opportunities for scouts to assess regional talent and involve Otjombinde residents living in Windhoek.
The Councillor Cup is due to return in December as another key event on the calendar. OSA is also preparing to add volleyball officially to its upcoming tournaments and competitive structures, widening the range of sports offered in the constituency.
Facility development is another focus, with plans to expand the Helena and Lister hubs. The objective is to reduce the heavy concentration of infrastructure in Tallismanus and provide improved sporting facilities in more parts of Otjombinde. Hange said the association’s progress will depend on support from traditional leaders, schools, businesses, young people, older residents and fans.
Hange leads the association alongside vice-president Vemutonda Marenga-Nguvauva and secretary general Kainje Tjijombo. Vezemba Katiko is deputy secretary, Issy Katjipotu handles liaison and public relations, and Pojo Tjiroze heads the women’s desk. The executive committee also includes Hanse Nguvauva, Ndjipua Siririka, Tizajo Murangi, Tjijamanuka Kandjavera, Kautungu Tjiroze, Tjipe Kauami and Uakaa Muundjua.
