Zion Suzuki undergoes Aston Villa medical ahead of Parma move
Japan international Zion Suzuki is having his medical at Aston Villa after the Premier League club agreed terms for his move from Parma.
Zion Suzuki, 23, is undergoing his medical examination at Aston Villa as he moves closer to joining the Premier League club from Parma. Villa have agreed a €30 million deal for the goalkeeper, with a further €5 million available through add-ons.
The Japanese international has also reached an agreement on personal terms and is expected to sign a five-year contract running through 2031. The medical is the latest step in Villa’s effort to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
Villa turned to Suzuki after their proposed transfer of Emiliano Martinez to Juventus fell through. The Argentine’s move to the Italian club did not progress, while Suzuki became the English side’s preferred alternative in goal.
Suzuki had previously been close to joining Paris Saint-Germain. The French club had agreed a potential €35 million transfer with Parma and planned for the goalkeeper to undergo a medical in Paris, but the deal collapsed after disagreements involving commission demands from his representatives.
Villa then accelerated negotiations with Parma and secured an agreement for the goalkeeper. Juventus’ interest in Martinez also faded as Villa advanced their pursuit of Suzuki, with the Italian club’s reported €10 million offer for the Argentine failing to convince Villa to sell.
Suzuki made 20 Serie A appearances for Parma last season and kept five clean sheets. He has also become an important player for Japan, adding international experience to his club career. Villa’s recent form includes three wins and two defeats, and their next listed fixture is away to Brighton in the Premier League on August 23, 2026.
