NFF officials summoned to Villa amid Nigeria football resignation drama

At least six NFF executive members are expected at the Presidential Villa as pressure grows over possible resignations from the federation’s leadership.

Members of the Nigeria Football Federation Executive Committee have been directed to report to the Presidential Villa as pressure mounts on the federation’s leadership. At least six officials are understood to be ready to attend, with the meeting potentially leading to the signing of resignation letters.

An email was sent to Executive Committee members on Wednesday instructing them to appear at the Villa on Thursday. The possible departures would bring the current NFF administration under Ibrahim Musa Gusau to an abrupt end if the letters are signed.

The developments have also cast uncertainty over a gathering of more than 20 NFF Congress members in Kano. The group had been brought together before a planned trip to Katsina for the final of the Gusau/Alhan Cup competition, which is scheduled to end this weekend.

The Kano meeting was initially expected to provide an opportunity for the Congress members to express support for Gusau and the Executive Committee through a vote of confidence. That plan is now unclear as the Villa meeting and possible resignations dominate the federation’s immediate future.

By 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, both Gusau and the NFF General Secretary were reportedly unreachable. Their unavailability added to uncertainty over whether the invited officials would proceed with resignations and whether the Congress members would continue with the planned Katsina programme.

The situation places the NFF leadership at a critical point, with the next steps at the Presidential Villa likely to determine whether the federation enters a major change in its administration.
