NPFL 2026/27 transfer activity intensifies before August kickoff
NPFL clubs are reshaping their squads for the 2026/27 season, with the tentative August 27–29 start date drawing closer.
Nigeria Premier Football League clubs are stepping up their recruitment ahead of the 2026/27 season, which is tentatively set to begin between August 27 and 29. Teams are using the final phase of preparation to reshape their squads before the new campaign starts.
The competition will carry added financial significance after the National Sports Commission announced prize money of ₦1 billion. That figure has increased the focus on squad building as clubs prepare for the demands of the top flight.
Shooting Stars are among the teams to have strengthened their midfield and attack. The Ibadan club brought in Olakunle Akala from Kano Pillars, Abdulaziz Dalhatu from Niger Tornadoes and Taheer Abubakar from Wikki Tourists.
Katsina United have made one of the largest changes, unveiling 11 new players as they rebuild their squad. Their arrivals include striker Samson Obi from Rivers United, Sierra Leone goalkeeper Koroma Francis from Wilberforce FC and former Akwa United captain Ubong Essien.
Kano Pillars have concentrated on defensive additions, signing Fabian Nworie and Obassa Adeniyi from Remo Stars. The moves give the club further options at the back before the campaign begins.
The promoted teams are also adding experience as they prepare for life in the division. Sporting Lagos and Ranchers Bees have recruited players with previous top-flight experience, aiming to establish greater stability ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season.
