NPFL: Katsina United promote two U-19 players to senior team
Katsina United have handed first professional contracts to Umar Rabiu Mohammad and Abdurraman Saidu after promoting both from their U-19 side.
Katsina United have promoted two U-19 players into their senior squad ahead of the new season. Umar Rabiu Mohammad and Abdurraman Saidu are the youngsters selected for the move.
Both players have signed their first professional contracts with the Chanji Boys. Their promotion gives them a formal route into the club’s first team after progressing through the U-19 setup.
Mohammad and Saidu are expected to begin working with the senior side as Katsina United prepare for the next campaign. The move places the pair in contention for first-team involvement rather than another season solely at youth level.
Katsina United ended the 2026 Nigeria Professional Football League season in ninth place, collecting 51 points from 36 matches. Their record was 14 wins, nine draws and 13 defeats, with 30 goals scored and 32 conceded.
Their recent results underline the inconsistency within that campaign. Katsina United lost 3-0 away to Rivers United, beat Ikorodu City 4-1, then suffered a 1-0 defeat at Bendel Insurance. They followed that with a 3-2 win over Bayelsa United before losing 3-0 at Enyimba.
The club’s next listed league fixture is away to Enugu Rangers on 30 August 2026. Mohammad and Saidu will enter the senior group as Katsina United look to build on their academy pathway and strengthen the squad around the new season.
