NPFL: Shooting Stars and Doma United target Stormers defender Adewunmi
NPFL sides Shooting Stars and Doma United are preparing offers for Abeokuta Stormers defender Michael Adewunmi after his pre-season display.
Shooting Stars and Doma United are competing for Abeokuta Stormers defender Michael Adewunmi as both clubs strengthen their squads ahead of the new season. Offers for the Nigeria National League player are expected in the next few days.
Adewunmi attracted attention from both clubs during a pre-season tournament in Abeokuta. His performances there impressed scouts from Shooting Stars and Doma United, placing the defender on the radar of the two NPFL teams.
Shooting Stars could have an advantage in the pursuit because Adewunmi is understood to be interested in the prospect of continental football. The Ibadan club finished third in the 2026 Nigeria Professional Football League standings with 60 points from 38 matches.
Their campaign produced 18 wins, six draws and 14 defeats, with 41 goals scored and 40 conceded. The figures leave Shooting Stars among the leading teams in the division and provide the context for their move to reinforce the squad.
Shooting Stars have taken seven points from their last five league matches. They defeated Barau FC 1-0, Nasarawa United 3-2 and El Kanemi Warriors 2-1, while drawing 0-0 with Kwara United and losing 1-0 away to Niger Tornadoes.
The club’s next listed fixture is against Inter Lagos on 28 August 2026 in the NPFL. Before then, attention is also on the expected offers for Adewunmi, with Doma United seeking to secure the defender alongside Shooting Stars.
