Orlando Pirates beat Chippa United 3-0 to lead PSL 2026 table
Orlando Pirates moved top of the 2026 PSL after a 3-0 win over Chippa United, leaving fans celebrating their edge over Kaizer Chiefs.
Orlando Pirates moved above Kaizer Chiefs at the top of the South African Premier Soccer League after beating Chippa United 3-0 in Durban on Sunday. The result left Pirates first and Chiefs second, with both Soweto clubs on seven points after three matches.
Pirates settled the contest through goals from Gamphani Lungu, Lebone Seema and Daniel Msendami. Msendami’s strike was his first for the club and completed the scoring after Pirates had established a two-goal lead.
The result prompted Pirates supporters to celebrate online, with “No signal at Naturena” becoming one of the lines used to taunt their Soweto rivals. The phrase referred to Chiefs’ drop to second place rather than a difference in points: both sides have won two league matches and drawn one.
Pirates moved ahead because of their stronger goal difference. Chiefs have scored six goals and conceded two in the league so far, while their latest match ended in a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns. That draw came a day before Pirates’ win over Chippa United and allowed the Buccaneers to take the weekend’s lead.
Chiefs’ listed recent results include defeats by Elche and Chippa United, a draw against Al Kholood, and wins over AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United. Their league record remains unbeaten after three games, but the points table now places them behind Pirates.
Kaizer Chiefs’ next fixture is away to Richards Bay on 26 August 2026. Pirates’ 3-0 victory, meanwhile, restored momentum after their midweek 1-1 draw against AmaZulu and ensured they finished the weekend at the summit.
