SC Volcanoes appoint Sadick Sempigi for FUFA Big League debut
Newly promoted SC Volcanoes Kisoro have appointed Sadick Sempigi on a renewable one-year deal as they prepare for the 2026-27 FUFA Big League.
SC Volcanoes Kisoro have appointed Sadick Sempigi as head coach on a renewable one-year contract ahead of their first FUFA Big League campaign in the 2026-27 season. The newly promoted club has made the move as it begins preparations for life in Uganda’s second tier.
Sempigi arrives after guiding Kigezi HomeBoyz FC to a top-four finish in the FUFA Big League and promotion to the Uganda Premier League. His record in promotion campaigns was a major factor in the decision to bring him to Kisoro.
He succeeds Patrick Ochan, the former Uganda Cranes midfielder who led SC Volcanoes through an unbeaten Western Regional Football League season. Ochan also delivered the regional championship and promotion before his contract ended. He is now working towards his CAF-B coaching qualifications.
Sempigi obtained his CAF-B Diploma in 2023 and has built experience with several Ugandan clubs. He guided Mbarara City FC to promotion to the Uganda Premier League in the 2022-23 season, while also serving in coaching roles at Onduparaka FC, Lugazi FC, Arua Hill SC, Kampala University and Jinja North United.
SC Volcanoes president Dr Martin Mbonye said the club moved quickly after learning that Sempigi was available. He pointed to the coach’s work with Kigezi HomeBoyz, experience, ambition and knowledge of the game as reasons for his appointment, adding that the club would provide the support and resources required for the job.
Club patron Robert Mukiza described the appointment as a sign of the club’s ambition and backed Sempigi to move the team forward. The coaching change is expected to begin a wider recruitment and squad-building programme, with promotion to the Uganda Premier League set as SC Volcanoes’ long-term objective after their unbeaten regional campaign.
