Sunderland must raise offer for Sporting winger Geny Catamo this window

Sunderland will need to move towards Geny Catamo’s £52m release clause if they are to sign the Sporting CP winger this transfer window.

Sunderland will need to improve their proposal for Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo, with a deal reportedly requiring an offer close to the Mozambique international’s £52 million release clause. The Black Cats are considering the 25-year-old as they look to strengthen Regis Le Bris’ attacking options this transfer window.

Catamo produced a strong campaign for Sporting last season, registering eight goals and five assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. His contribution came during a productive period for the Portuguese club, where he established himself as one of the more effective wide players in Liga Portugal.

The size of Sporting’s valuation is reinforced by Catamo’s contract, which runs until the summer of 2028. That long-term agreement gives the club a strong position in negotiations and makes a reduced fee difficult for Sunderland to secure.

Catamo’s game is built around his ability to carry the ball from wide areas. He can beat opponents with his dribbling, drive forward on the flank and create opportunities for teammates. He also possesses the power to threaten from distance, giving him another way to influence matches.

The winger generally plays on the right but is also capable of operating on the left. His versatility would give Le Bris greater flexibility in selecting his frontline, while his record for Sporting suggests he can contribute both goals and assists rather than relying solely on his work in possession.

A move to the Premier League would still represent a new test for Catamo, and it remains uncertain how quickly he would adapt to the demands of English football. However, at 25, he is viewed as a player with room to develop and the quality to compete for a regular starting place at Sunderland if the club can meet Sporting’s terms.
