Tanaka Saburi ready for Chen prospect test at Thunderdome 55

Perth prospect Tanaka Saburi will face China’s Jingyang Chen on August 28, aiming to build on three wins and his state title success.

Tanaka “Tsabz” Saburi will face China’s Jingyang Chen at Thunderdome 55 on August 28, with the Perth prospect seeking another step forward after three straight victories. The bout will take place at Metro City Arena as Dragon Fire Boxing stages the latest event in its series.

Saburi enters the contest as Australia’s No. 13-ranked fighter and the holder of the State Junior Welterweight Championship. Chen also has a 3-1 record, setting up a meeting between two prospects with similar professional records and ambitions.

The Perth fighter has studied Chen but says his preparation has centred mainly on improving his own performance. He expects the visitor to arrive ready for the opportunity and does not intend to underestimate him.

Saburi’s camp has focused on footwork, distance, positioning, timing, defence, combinations and conditioning. He has also placed importance on staying composed when the pace increases and making sound decisions under pressure. Recovery, nutrition, sleep and discipline away from the gym have formed part of that preparation.

The three-fight winning run and state title have helped lift Saburi into the Australian top 15, but he views that ranking as a starting point rather than an achievement to protect. His stated targets are to reach the top 10, move into the top five and eventually compete for major titles.

He also wants to remain active through the rest of 2026 while continuing to develop. The immediate task is Chen, whose challenge will test whether Saburi’s recent progress can carry into a higher-profile prospect meeting. Saburi believes the demanding camp has left him fit, sharp and ready to perform when the two fighters meet in Perth.
