Tariq Lamptey returns after 335 days in QPR's 0-0 Championship draw

Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey returned after 335 days out with an ACL injury, appearing for QPR in their goalless draw with Bolton.

Tariq Lamptey returned to competitive football after 335 days out as Queens Park Rangers drew 0-0 with Bolton Wanderers in the Championship on Saturday. The Ghana defender entered in the 60th minute, replacing Amadou Mbengue, for his first appearance since joining QPR.

The comeback ended a lengthy absence caused by an ACL injury suffered during Lamptey’s time at Fiorentina. The 25-year-old joined the Italian club from Brighton in September 2025 and played only twice before the knee problem brought his season to an early end.

Lamptey completed his rehabilitation before leaving Fiorentina and signing permanently for QPR in July 2026. His appearance against Bolton was therefore his first competitive outing for the London club since arriving during the summer.

QPR generated opportunities at Loftus Road but were unable to score, leaving both sides with a point. Lamptey’s 30 minutes provided the main individual landmark from the match as he began his return to regular football.

The defender expressed his happiness at being back on the pitch and acknowledged the positive reception from the QPR supporters. He also credited God and said he would continue working after making his long-awaited comeback.

Lamptey’s return offers Ghana a boost ahead of the Black Stars’ preparations for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. His recovery gives the national team another defensive option after a season in which his club career was severely limited by injury.
