Tim Bradley questions Ryan Garcia’s camp while giving Benn a pass

Tim Bradley has questioned Ryan Garcia’s training footage ahead of September 12, but his concerns do not address Conor Benn’s weight-cut risks.

Tim Bradley has questioned Ryan Garcia’s preparation for his September 12 fight with Conor Benn after seeing a short mitt-work video. The former world champion said the footage lacked the intensity expected from a serious training camp and questioned whether Garcia was giving social media too much attention.

Bradley’s criticism focused on Garcia’s public image and commitment rather than the full picture of his preparation. A brief clip cannot show everything taking place in camp, and Garcia’s most recent performance offered evidence that he had recovered from his defeat by Rolando Romero.

Garcia looked composed and well-conditioned against Mario Barrios in his last fight. Romero had troubled him with repeated double left hooks and brought a considerable size and power advantage, while Garcia struggled to adjust. His response against Barrios suggested that the loss had not ended his ability to perform at a high level.

Benn’s recent outing presents its own concerns, which Bradley’s focus on Garcia does not address. Benn beat Regis Prograis by unanimous decision over 10 rounds in April, but he was hit regularly and could not hurt his opponent. That fight took place at a 150-pound catchweight, while Benn must now reach the 147-pound welterweight limit in Las Vegas.

The additional three-pound reduction could affect Benn’s strength, punch resistance and ability to keep applying pressure. Pressure is likely to be central to his approach against Garcia, as moving forward early could deny Garcia space and limit his opportunities to use his faster hands and recognised left hook.

That strategy also carries a clear risk. Garcia’s left hook was troubled by Romero’s larger frame and unusual power, but Benn may not bring the same force at 147 pounds. On the recent form available, Garcia produced a controlled rebound against Barrios, while Benn endured a punishing contest three pounds above the limit he must make for this fight.
