UFC 330: Chidi Njokuani beats Joel Alvarez by unanimous decision

Chidi Njokuani defeated Joel Alvarez by unanimous decision at UFC 330, with a measured three-round contest drawing boos in Philadelphia.

Chidi Njokuani defeated Joel Alvarez by unanimous decision at UFC 330, bringing the welterweight bout to a close after three rounds in Philadelphia. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in Njokuani’s favour.

The fight closed the preliminary card at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. Njokuani needed an additional attempt before making the welterweight limit, while Alvarez moved up from his previous lightweight division. Njokuani had also competed at middleweight earlier in his career.

Njokuani took the centre of the cage early and used kicks to the legs, thigh and body. Alvarez responded mainly with punches, but Njokuani landed a jab that jolted his opponent’s head. Alvarez came close with a spinning back kick late in the opening round, yet neither fighter established a sustained attacking rhythm.

The pace remained cautious in the second round. Both men relied on feints and isolated strikes, with long stretches spent assessing each other rather than committing to exchanges. Njokuani added more low kicks and moved forward at intervals, while the action drew boos from the Philadelphia crowd.

The pattern continued into the final round. A brief clinch against the fence produced no takedown, and the fighters returned to the centre. Njokuani kept targeting the legs, and Alvarez became increasingly hesitant as the bout progressed, often giving ground while returning occasional kicks and punches.

With no finish arriving, the result went to the judges. Njokuani’s steady kicking game and greater willingness to press forward were enough to secure the unanimous decision, although the ending was met by another round of boos from the arena.
