Wrexham join Hull and Brighton in race for Nigeria star Azeez

Wrexham have joined Hull City and Brighton in the race to sign Nigeria winger Femi Azeez, with the summer transfer window entering its final week. The 25-year-old has attracted attention after scoring 11 goals and supplying seven assists for Millwall in the 2025-26 Championship season.

Azeez’s form helped Millwall finish third in the Championship before Hull eliminated them in the play-off semi-finals. Hull have been linked with the winger for several weeks, while Brighton have also identified him as one of their options on the flank.

Wrexham are seeking another attacking player after drawing their opening two Championship matches against Cardiff City and Watford. The club controlled long periods of both games but did not convert that pressure into victories, adding to the case for a creative signing before the September 1 deadline.

Brighton’s interest comes as they assess their wide options, with Amario Cozier-Duberry potentially leaving for Rangers. The Premier League club have begun the 2026 season in first place with three points from one match and a 4-0 goal record. Their recent five-match sequence contains two wins and three defeats, including victories over Wolves and Chelsea.

Azeez also strengthened his profile with the Super Eagles. He scored twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 Unity Cup semi-final victory over Zimbabwe and provided an assist in the final against Jamaica. Those performances followed his breakthrough into the senior international squad.

The winger started Millwall’s first two league matches of the new campaign, but he was withdrawn after 30 minutes against Bristol City on August 15 because of a Grade 1B hamstring strain. The injury has been described as minor, and a return against Southampton is being targeted after he missed the match with Norwich City.

Azeez remains under contract at Millwall until June 2028, leaving the club in a strong negotiating position. Wrexham have already added Anthony Patterson, Danny Imray and Ben Whiteman this summer, but their stated focus is on securing quality rather than increasing squad numbers before the deadline.
