Catch Them Young referees make impact at 2026 X1 DOL Super Cup

Sixteen young referees completed the 2026 X1 DOL Super Cup in Obuasi, gaining valuable experience through the Ghana FA development policy.

Sixteen young referees played a prominent role at the 2026 X1 Energy Drink DOL Super Cup, which has ended in Obuasi. The group was given the opportunity to officiate at the fifth edition of the competition as part of Ghana’s efforts to develop a new generation of match officials.

The officials were selected through the Ghana Football Association’s Catch Them Young Referee Policy. The programme is designed to identify promising referees, support their development and expose them to competitive football at an early stage of their careers.

The appointed group consisted of eight centre referees and eight assistant referees. They handled matches during the tournament and completed the competition, giving them experience in an environment that forms an important part of the Division One League calendar.

Their involvement also placed the policy’s focus on practical opportunities. Rather than limiting young officials to training, the initiative provided them with responsibility in a major competition and allowed them to apply their skills in match situations.

The performances of the referees during the Super Cup underlined the value of continued investment in officiating. The tournament gave the 16 officials a platform to demonstrate their ability while building experience that can support their progression.
