Ghana urged to clear Black Challenge debts before World Amputee Cup 2026
TH4D has called on Ghana’s government to settle Black Challenge players’ unpaid expenses before the 2026 World Amputee Football Cup in Mexico.
Talent Hour for Persons with Disabilities has appealed to Ghana’s government to settle outstanding debts owed to members of the Black Challenge before the national amputee football team competes at the 2026 World Amputee Football Cup in Mexico.
The tournament will take place in San Juan de los Lagos from November 13 to 22, 2026. Ghana is among 24 countries expected to compete for the world title, while TH4D has also called on businesses and the public to provide additional support for the team’s preparations.
The organisation recognised the Ghana National Paralympic Committee, its president Samson Deen and the Black Challenge management for covering the participation fee that secured Ghana’s place at the tournament.
It also noted the US$10,000 donation made by President John Dramani Mahama after the team won the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Egypt. The Black Challenge defeated Morocco 2-1 in Cairo to claim that continental title.
TH4D said, however, that players still faced unpaid financial obligations linked to earlier assignments, including the 2023 African Paralympic Games and the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations. It said some players based outside Ghana borrowed money to pay for travel back to their clubs after the Egyptian competition.
The organisation has asked President Mahama and the government to clear those obligations and create a dedicated reward and incentive package for the team. It said reducing the players’ financial pressure would recognise their contribution to Ghana and support their preparations for the Mexico tournament.
TH4D said it would continue working to promote inclusion and help athletes with disabilities develop their sporting potential.
