Kayden Lucas targets regular West Brom PL2 role after Newcastle exit

The English-Ghanaian midfielder has joined West Brom from Newcastle and wants to establish himself as a regular in the club’s PL2 team.

Kayden Lucas is targeting a regular place in West Bromwich Albion’s Premier League 2 side after moving to the club from Newcastle United. The 18-year-old midfielder has signed a contract running to summer 2027, with Albion retaining the option to add another year.

Lucas was born in Bristol and is eligible to represent both England and Ghana. He sees his arrival at The Hawthorns as an important opportunity to continue developing in a new environment and intends to make a strong start with Albion’s young professionals.

His main objective for the season is to become a consistent selection for the PL2 team. That target will be central to his next step after leaving Newcastle, where he had continued his development since earning a two-year scholarship in 2024.

A left-footed midfielder, Lucas is most comfortable in an attacking central role. He describes his game as being built around controlling possession, carrying the ball beyond opponents and supplying forward passes. He believes those qualities match the approach used by West Brom’s under-21 side.

Lucas began his football education at Weston Town before spending time with Exeter City and Clevedon Town. Those spells helped him earn the move into Newcastle’s academy structure, and he will now seek regular opportunities in PL2 with Albion.

The move gives Lucas a fresh route to senior football within West Brom’s development system. His immediate challenge is to turn his confidence in his ability and his understanding of the team’s style into consistent appearances for the under-21 side.
