KCB target Driftwood Sevens dominance as Tusker joins 2026 event
KCB RFC will defend the Driftwood Sevens title and seek to extend its National Sevens Circuit lead after Tusker pledged Sh1.5 million.
The fourth round of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit will be staged this weekend at Mombasa Sports Club, with KCB RFC seeking to retain the Driftwood Sevens title. Tusker has committed Sh1.5 million to support the tournament, adding commercial backing to a key weekend on the Kenyan rugby calendar.
KCB arrive in Mombasa at the top of the overall circuit standings after winning the opening Prinsloo Sevens and retaining the Kabeberi Sevens crown. Their other early result was a runners-up finish at the Dala Sevens, where Kabras RFC defeated Menengai Oilers in the final.
The Nairobi club began the season by beating Kabras Sugar 19-12 in the Prinsloo final. Kabras responded in Kisumu by defeating Menengai Oilers 17-5 at Dala, before KCB returned to the winners’ circle at Kabeberi by overcoming Strathmore Leos.
That Kabeberi success extended KCB’s run to five consecutive titles at the tournament. Samuel Asati and George Ooro will be among the players expected to strengthen the champions’ challenge as they pursue another Driftwood victory and a firmer grip on the circuit lead.
Tusker’s contribution will assist with the organisation and delivery of the Mombasa event. The brewer will also take its Tusker Na Rugby activation to the Coast, with activities linked to the tournament’s entertainment programme and official after-party.
The sponsorship follows Tusker’s backing of the Prinsloo, Dala and Kabeberi Sevens, extending its involvement across the circuit. Driftwood is one of the final three rounds, with Embu Sevens scheduled for September 5-6 before the series ends with Christie Sevens in Nairobi on September 12-13.
The opening rounds have produced three different winners across the first two tournaments before KCB reclaimed the title at Kabeberi. Driftwood therefore offers the leading club an opportunity to build on its strong start while giving teams another national-level platform in Mombasa.
