KCCA beat NEC 1-0 to win 2026 FUFA Super 8 after eight years
KCCA ended an eight-year trophy wait by beating NEC 1-0 in the 2026 FUFA Super 8 final, with Saidi Mayanja scoring from the spot.
KCCA defeated NEC FC 1-0 to win the 2026 FUFA Super 8 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, ending an eight-year wait for a trophy. The victory came through Saidi Mayanja’s first-half penalty in a tightly contested final.
The decisive moment arrived in the 35th minute after Daniel Shabene made contact with Yunus Sibira inside the penalty area. The referee awarded KCCA a spot-kick, a decision that angered NEC, but Mayanja converted it firmly past goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.
NEC had threatened before the penalty, with Richard Basangwa heading wide after receiving an opportunity in front of goal. The defeat left the side needing a response after the interval, and NEC increased its pressure as it searched for an equaliser.
KCCA came close to adding a second goal 10 minutes into the second half. Emmanuel Anyama created the opening for Sibira, but the midfielder sent his attempt over the crossbar. NEC continued to push, yet KCCA protected its narrow advantage.
The strongest late test came six minutes before full time, when Enrique Lubwama struck from distance. KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa dived to push the effort away, preserving the lead and securing the final victory.
The title adds to a strong competitive record for KCCA in the 2025 Uganda Premier League season. The club finished second with 62 points from 30 matches, recording 19 wins, five draws and six defeats while scoring 46 goals and conceding 22. Its recent sequence also included wins over Mbarara City, UPDF and Maroons, alongside draws with URA and Vipers.
