Marcelo Allende confirms Sundowns stay while hinting at final season

Marcelo Allende will remain with Mamelodi Sundowns, although the 27-year-old Chilean midfielder has suggested this could be his last season.

Marcelo Allende has confirmed that he will stay with Mamelodi Sundowns, while also hinting that the coming campaign could be his final season with the South African club. The 27-year-old Chilean’s comments place a possible end date on his time in Pretoria without indicating that his departure is immediate.

Allende plays as an attacking midfielder and is currently registered with Sundowns. His decision to remain gives the club continuity in that position for now, but his suggestion about a final season leaves his longer-term future unresolved. No transfer has been announced alongside the confirmation of his stay.

The Chilean joined Sundowns from Mvd City Torque during the 2022/23 season. That move was recorded at €2.90 million, marking the biggest fee listed in his transfer history and bringing him to the club where he remains today.

Before moving to Sundowns, Allende’s career included a spell at Mvd City Torque after transferring from Magallanes in the 2019/20 season. His route to Magallanes came through Necaxa in the same campaign, while his earlier move from Santa Cruz to Necaxa was recorded in 2017/18.

Allende’s current market value is listed at €2.5 million. That figure reflects his present valuation as a Sundowns player, while his confirmed stay ensures that the club keeps a 27-year-old Chilean attacking midfielder who has already moved through four clubs in his recorded career.

For Sundowns, the immediate position is clear: Allende remains part of the squad. The uncertainty concerns what follows, with the player’s own indication pointing towards a possible final season rather than a confirmed exit date.
