Micho returns to St George for third stint to restore club’s fortunes

Serbian coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic has signed a three-year deal with St George, returning to the Ethiopian club after a sixth-place finish.

Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic is back at St George Football Club for a third spell, taking charge of the Ethiopian record champions on a contract that runs until 2029. The Serbian coach returns after the Addis Ababa club finished sixth in last season’s league campaign, with the task of rebuilding its standing and restoring his reputation at a familiar club.

St George formally presented Micho at the Sheraton Addis Hotel after agreeing the three-year arrangement. His appointment marks a return to the team where he first worked from 2004 to 2006 before taking up a second spell between 2007 and 2010.

Those earlier periods produced five Ethiopian Premier League titles, one Ethiopian Cup and three Super Cup trophies. St George, founded in 1935, have collected more than 30 league championships, making their recent sixth-place finish well below the level associated with the club.

Micho has made clear that his return is tied to St George’s ambition of competing at the top again. His previous success with the club gives him a direct connection to its most successful period, while the long-term contract gives him time to address the decline reflected in last season’s table position.

The 54-year-old coach brings wide experience from clubs and national teams across Africa and beyond. His club career has included Zamalek, ES Setif, Al-Hilal, Orlando Pirates and Uganda’s SC Villa, while he has also coached Uganda, Rwanda and Libya.

Micho was part of Uganda’s return to the Africa Cup of Nations after an absence of more than 30 years. At St George, he now begins another attempt to turn past success into a new competitive era and lift the club from sixth place.
