Nigerian striker Peter Ambrose joins Neuchâtel Xamax from Aberdeen

Nigerian forward Peter Ambrose has left Aberdeen for Neuchâtel Xamax on a permanent transfer after limited league opportunities in Scotland.

Nigerian striker Peter Ambrose has completed a permanent move from Aberdeen to Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax, ending his two-year spell with the Scottish side. The 24-year-old will continue his career in Switzerland after struggling to secure a regular place in Aberdeen’s first team.

Ambrose joined Aberdeen in 2024 from Hungarian club Újpest. His time in Scotland produced one league goal from 15 appearances, a record that reflected his limited involvement rather than a sustained run of matches.

The transfer gives Ambrose the chance to seek more consistent football at Neuchâtel Xamax. The Swiss club has started the season strongly, and the Nigerian forward now has an opportunity to compete for a regular role with his new team.

Aberdeen head coach Stephen Robinson said the lack of regular first-team opportunities had been a key factor in the decision to allow Ambrose to leave. Discussions between the player and the manager led to an agreement that a permanent move would be the best outcome for both the striker and the club.

Robinson also explained that Ambrose had been on loan in Hungary when he took charge at Aberdeen in the spring. After further discussions during the summer, the club sought a lasting arrangement that would allow the player to move forward while also resolving his situation at Aberdeen.

Ambrose leaves the Dons after two years with the club and begins a new chapter in Switzerland. His move to Neuchâtel Xamax places the focus on rebuilding his momentum through regular first-team football after a restricted spell in Scotland.
