Patrick Vieira set for Senegal national team coaching appointment

Patrick Vieira has agreed to take charge of Senegal, with the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace manager set to replace Pape Thiaw.

Patrick Vieira is set to become the next head coach of Senegal’s national team after reaching an agreement with the Senegalese Football Federation. The former Arsenal player is expected to be unveiled in the role and will take charge of the Teranga Lions with immediate effect.

Vieira will replace Pape Thiaw, who has been leading Senegal’s senior national team. The change places the Frenchman at the centre of Senegal’s football project after discussions over the coaching position.

The former Crystal Palace manager had recently been in talks with Senegal over the vacant role. Those negotiations have now produced an agreement, leaving Vieira poised to begin his work with the national side.

Vieira brings previous Premier League management experience to the position. He coached Crystal Palace after beginning his managerial career elsewhere, and his playing reputation was established during his time with Arsenal.

His arrival will mark a new coaching appointment for one of Africa’s leading national teams. Senegal will now prepare to work under Vieira once his unveiling is completed, while Thiaw’s tenure as head coach comes to an end.
