Zwane sets Ngwenya Zimbabwe greats target after AmaZulu 2-0 win

AmaZulu defeated Siwelele 2-0, with Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scoring once and creating the other goal. The performance prompted coach Arthur Zwane to set the Zimbabwean youngster an ambitious target.

Zwane believes Ngwenya can develop into a player capable of matching the standards reached by some of Zimbabwe’s most recognised football exports. He pointed to Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat and Peter Ndlovu as the level he wants the young attacker to pursue.

The AmaZulu coach sees Ngwenya’s current spell at the club as an important stage in his development. He wants the player to use the experience gained in South Africa before eventually returning to Zimbabwe as an established footballer.

Zwane also described himself as Ngwenya’s mentor as well as his coach. He intends to keep demanding progress from the youngster and believes continued guidance can help him turn his potential into a career comparable with those of Zimbabwe’s leading stars.

Ngwenya’s display against Siwelele has strengthened Zwane’s confidence in his ability. The goal and assist offered an early indication of the influence the coach believes he can have, although the next task is to produce that level of performance consistently.

Musona, Billiat and Ndlovu are widely regarded among Zimbabwe’s most successful players. Zwane’s challenge places Ngwenya alongside that benchmark while he remains at an early point in his career, with development at AmaZulu now central to the ambition.
